MARQUETTE -- The man suspected of opening fire on police Wednesday morning in Gogebic County was arraigned Thursday in front of the Federal Court in Marquette.

Richard William McGeshick is charged with assaulting a federal officer with a deadly weapon on Lac Vieux Desert tribal land.

McGeshick was taken into custody where he will remain until his detention and preliminary hearing Monday, October 25.

"The government moved for detention, meaning we were asking for Mr. McGeshick to be detained pending trial in this case, and the court scheduled a hearing on our motion to detain him for next Monday," said Assistant U.S. Attorney, Maarten Vermaat.

McGeshick faces 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and $100 of additional fees.
