MARQUETTE -- A high-ranking U.S. Coast Guard official was in Marquette on Wednesday to discuss some issues with city officials, including recent drownings.

Rear Admiral Michael Parks, the District Commander for the Great Lakes region, was visiting in Marquette to address the needs of the local U.S. Coast Guard station and their interaction with local groups.

"Working very closely with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, which is our civilian arm of the Coast Guard, who has a very active boating safety campaign.  They have safety classes where they work very much hand-in-hand with the local community and the different people who are out on the water," stated Parks.

Rear Admiral Parks oversees roughly 6,000 active duty, reserve, civilian, and auxiliary men and women.
