Participants could not have had a more beautiful day for the festivities
IRON MOUNTAIN -- Sounds of laughing children and banter from friends and neighbors could be heard throughout the Harvest on Hughitt in Iron Mountain Saturday afternoon.
The sun was warm, but fall was definitely in the air as food vendors, crafters, and artists made casual conversation with passing visitors. It was a celebration of fall and an excuse for the community to get together.
"This is an event that is two decades old and has brought people downtown to celebrate the fall," said Main Street Coordinator at City of Iron Mountain, Jonathan Ringel. "We have everything from crafters and food vendors, local artists, which are popping out of the woodwork. It has been absolutely wonderful."
A favorite among the children was the petting zoo.
"My favorite was probably the pig because it was so cute," said Rachael Tefft of Iron River.
And, of course, face and pumpkin painting were also main attractions. An activity for both parents and children were the carriage rides, adding a quaint touch to the festivities. The event was also a conclusion to the Iron Mountain farmers markets for the 2010 season.
"The whole summer, people were very impressed," said Iron Mountain resident Devona, "and it's just going to get better every year."
And this year's attendance doubled from last year with close to 2,000 people at the event.
