The Family Readiness Group supports the 1430th Engineering Company before being shipped overseas
GLADSTONE -- It was a bazaar to support the families of true American heroes, and the Family Readiness Group--a volunteer group that helps support the families of soldiers--stepped in to organize Saturday's Fall Bazaar.
The event hosted vendors, crafters, and local artists at the Gladstone Armory in Gladstone. Items ranged from baked goods to candles to clothing, even pumpkins.
Organizers were hoping to raise around $500.
The event will benefit a family day and sendoff gathering for soldiers of the 1430th Engineer Company and their families.
"We try to have a day where the families get to spend with their soldier before they have to leave. We take pictures so they have that memento if they want it; if they don't want it, they don't have to, everything is voluntary. The funds go for the craft projects and the food and the pictures and everything that we do with them," says organizer Andrea Chaney.
And the event had a nice turnout. Close to fifty people arrived in the morning, with a steady flow of shoppers heading into the afternoon.
