Fall is looking good, too
MARQUETTE -- It's said that tourism could save the U.P.'s economy, and if that's the case, things are looking up. That's because Marquette is having an extremely successful tourism season.
People are traveling to the area to view the fall colors, and according the Marquette Country Convention and Visitor's Bureau, the majority of hotels in the area are completely booked for this upcoming weekend.
The bureau credits the longer color season for the success.
"Everybody wants to know what are the dates of the fall color, and you know, that's kind of, well, I don't know; but this year, the leaves are holding up really well, and so, you know, we can easily tell people this week yet, this weekend, maybe even into the first of next week, so that's unusual," said Pat Black, Director of the Visitor's Bureau.
The bureau says the tourism numbers haven't been officially tallied yet for this summer, but it looks like Marquette's summer may have been a record-breaker.
