Marquette County residents could help the environment
ISHPEMING TWP. -- A free service for Marquette County residents could play a significant role in the area's environmental impact.
Many household items, such as rechargeable batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and even nail polish, can pose serious risks to the community if improperly disposed.
Since May, Marquette County Solid Waste Authority has been hosting drop-off events like the one held Saturday in Ishpeming Township.
"If you put your hazardous materials just in your regular trash, it's going to end up going through a system that could potentially dump it into the environment," said hazardous waste specialist Joe Upton. "There are opportunities for hazardous chemicals to leak out of the dump trucks or when it's being handled spill on the ground."
The last chance for residents to drop off items in Marquette County until spring is this upcoming Saturday on Baraga Avenue in Marquette.
