CHAMPION -- Although camping season is winding down, state parks are still encouraging visitors by beginning their recreation passport program.

Starting on October 1, you are able to purchase a passport that will give entry to all state parks and forests.

The state also has a program called Passport Perks which will entitle you to various discounts at businesses around the state.  The recreation passport will be available at the Secretary of State's offices and also at the state parks.

"This year we encourage you to buy them through your Secretary of State, but if you forget or you don't get it, we will provide them at the gate, and it'll be the same price this year.  In future years, I think, if you purchase it at the gate, it's going to go up," said Van Riper State Park Supervisor, Doug Barry.

The park-sold recreation passport price will increase by $5 in 2012.
