Authorities say a cut fiber optic cable was to blame
COPPER COUNTRY -- Phone service has been restored to AT&T customers in northern Houghton and Keweenaw Counties.
The 289 and 337 exchanges began working again just before 10 a.m. Wednesday, after crews repaired a damaged fiber optic cable located south of Calumet.
Authorities say the cable was cut but they aren't sure how.
The outage began around 8 p.m. Tuesday and lasted for nearly 14 hours. Dozens of volunteer firefighters stayed at their departments the entire night to help with emergencies.
