Helping NMU students compare abroad opportunities

MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan University is encouraging students to take their education outside the classroom and outside the country.

The university held its annual Fall Study Abroad Fair Tuesday, inviting students, professors, and community members to look into abroad opportunities.  Organizations and exchange programs set up tables for students to compare and contrast their options.

New this year, present via Skype, is an environmental study abroad organization from out of state.

"Students can talk and ask their questions, and this saves energy.  They're very environmental friendly, and they didn't want to spend a lot of money sending people by car, so they send a computer and they're talking to students live," said abroad coordinator, Susan Morgan.

Those who are interested in study abroad, but aren't sure how to pay for their trip can attend NMU's "funding your study abroad" program, Wednesday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Whittman Commons on the NMU campus.
