Music at a young age
PORTAGE LAKE -- The Copper Country Suzuki Association is showing parents that a great way to nurture their child's creativity is to give them music lessons at a young age.
The Portage Lake District Library became a stage Wednesday morning as more than a dozen children and parents listened to a violin concert featuring some young performers. The kids danced and clapped along as the musicians played songs and talked about practicing every day.
Afterwards, everyone in the audience got to test their own skills.
"It's tremendously important to start kids at a young age," said CCSA teacher Amanda Plummer. "Children are born musical; they have it inside. We have a tremendous opportunity when they're young to nurture the music."
The Suzuki method maintains that children as young as three can begin learning to play the violin although music classes for infants and parents are also beneficial.
