The campground is now more accessible.
AU TRAIN -- If you visit the Au Train Campground in the Hiawatha National Forest, you may notice it's a lot easier to get to your campsite.
The Alger Road Commission and the Forest Service recently completed a major construction project to make the campround more accessible.
New toilet buildings were installed around the campsite areas.
And nearly three miles of roadway leading into the campground and the parking lots surrounding the picnic areas and boat launch were repaved.
"It's much safer, and in much better condition for driving," says Janel Crooks of the U.S.F.S. for the Hiawatha Forest. "Also the campground loops themselves are much smoother, and more present to drive on. Accessibility was also improved for the user to use restroom facilities."
The project took nearly five months to complete.
It cost $900,000 in recovery fund money.
