World's largest piece of float copper lifted on Wednesday
MARQUETTE -- The world's largest piece of float copper arrived in Marquette last Friday.
It has spent the past few days on the truck it traveled on, but Wednesday it was moved to its display. A crane was on hand to lift the 40 ton piece of copper to the mound in Presque Isle Park. After a hard day of transport last week, organizers are happy to finally see their work paying off.
"There's been a lot of work in making this happen with the Superior Watershed Partnership and the Ancient Artifact Preservation Society. A lot of others have donated their time and equipment to make this happen, and it's great to see it here," says Superior Watershed Partnership's Executive Director Carl Lindquist.
The copper will remain in the park for a minimum of two years. For more information on the history of the copper, click here.
