All race proceeds will be going to the Marquette Senior High School Athletics Booster Club
MARQUETTE -- Despite the light showers and gusty winds, 260 runners showed up bright and early to the inaugural Ringside Fitness Marquette Marathon Saturday morning.
The half-marathon kicked off at 7:15 a.m. with the full marathon start time at 7:30. Both races shared the same course--13 1/2 miles of the community--starting and finishing at Presque Isle Park on the shores of Lake Superior.
The half marathon ran the course once, while the full marathon ran the course twice.
Three-hundred-eighty-five volunteers helped out at the race.
"Because this is an inaugural event, everything had to be purchased, from the cones to the flags to the signs to the safety vests, so it was a very expensive endeavor, and because of the community support, we were able to pull it off and still have a donation to give to the booster club in the end," says race director Nancy Bailey.
All race proceeds will be going to the Marquette Senior High School Athletics Booster Club.
