Backpacks and school supplies
ISHPEMING -- It's back to school time, and that means it's time to get some school supplies.
In this tight economy, the Ishpeming Salvation Army wants to help. Wednesday, they distributed backpacks filled with supplies for Ishpeming area kids of all ages, incomes, and needs.
They put a lot of effort collecting and gathering about 200 backpacks from generous donors, but they say watching the event come together makes it worth it.
"It's a lot of work getting up to it and preparing all the backpacks and getting all the supplies for each and every grade and setting all the stuff aside and filling them up, one by one; that's the hard part, that's the work. Today's the fun part; it's an easy day and we get to see all the smiles," said Capt. Chris Marques of the Ishpeming Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army says they had more donations this year than in years past.
