MARQUETTE -- It's estimated that more than 2,000 kids in America suffer from leukemia.  Currently, there are 150 families in the U.P. with an affected child.

For a Marquette family that has one of these children, they wanted to raise as much money as they could for the cause.

The first ever walk for childhood leukemia was held Saturday morning beginning at Mattson Lower Harbor Park.  More than 100 walkers participated in either a three, five, or eight mile course.

For the organizers, it was a great way to give back.

"We wanted to give back after everything that we went through with our son and everything.  This was our opportunity, now that he's doing well, to give back and to help other families that are going through this," said organizer Casey Rose.

All of the proceeds raised will go towards the Childhood Leukemia Foundation to help cover travel and medical expenses for the families.
