Promoting a healthy diet
MARQUETTE -- Everything from flowers to vegetables and even maple syrup was on display at the first ever farmers market at Marquette General Hospital.
The event was focused on bringing staff from the hospital out to enjoy the farmers market. Despite the rain, it also drew people from the community.
Ten local farmers joined in on the fun.
The farmers market is part of a push by Marquette General Hospital to promote healthy food and low trans-fat diets.
"The concept was we need to merge with the local community, and so this came out of ideas really looking at our local farmers, looking at sustainability, the economy and moving in that direction so people have a chance and an opportunity to buy this type of food products," said Carol Holman of MGH Food & Nutrition Services.
Marquette General Hospital, Superior Health Partners, and the Marquette Food Co-op teamed up to put on the event.
