Newberry man arraigned on domestic assault charges

Police respond to an assault in progress

LUCE COUNTY -- Michigan State Police are investigating a felony domestic violence incident that occurred at 9 a.m. on Monday in McMillan Township.

Robert Kenneth Martell, 33, is being charged with unlawful imprisonment, felonious assault, and felony firearm usage in Luce County District Court.

Martell is the live-in boyfriend of the victim.

Authorities were called to a domestic assault in progress and found that the victim was being held inside a room of the residence against her will and that a weapon may have been involved.  She was treated and released from Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry.

Martell is currently held at the Luce County Jail with a $100,000 cash bond.
