Shopping spree for kids
MARQUETTE -- New clothes, school supplies, and a backpack--the things most kids crave for the big first day of school.
This year, Target helped give that luxury to many local kids who wouldn't have otherwise had the opportunity. They teamed up with the Marquette County Salvation Army to give 30 Sawyer kids $80 gift cards for a back-to-school shopping spree.
Salvation Army volunteers choose families in need that would most appreciate the gift, giving many their first ever "shopping spree."
"The first day of school is gonna be really cool," said shopper Kaylah Hayes.
"These kids get to start their first day of school confident and excited with new shoes and a new shirt, and I know it's small, but for a child, that's a big thing," added Director of the Salvation Army, Tricia Coker.
Target regularly participates in gift card donations to those in need.
