ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP -- With such busy lifestyles, Americans have to schedule everything including their free time, and that's exactly what National Night out does.  Each first Tuesday or Wednesday in August, local safety enforcement around the country host an evening of fun for their community.

The Ishpeming Township Fire Department held their sixth National Night Out Wednesday night at the Ishpeming Township fire hall.

"It's one time we get to see our local fire department or EMS people, and as neighbors, get to enjoy each other's company," said Lolita Barry, a TRIAD board member.

With a jumpy castle, free fire truck rides, and ambulance demos, the event is safety awareness disguised as a block party.

"It's just so that children themselves can know that they can call on any one of these groups to be helped," Barry said.

"You can't compete with a kid on a fire truck, they love them," said Andy Lusardi, Ishpeming Township Fire Chief.

Each year the Ishpeming Township Fire Department expands on their activities.  This year the fire department had a whole new exhibit--fire hose demonstrations--this year's crowd favorite.

Several hundred people attended the event Wednesday evening.  While the fire department says it's been their biggest Night Out yet, they hope the event gains more popularity each year.
