Collect cards, win money, ride ATVs for a good cause
MARQUETTE -- U.P residents will be combining two popular pastimes this weekend and all for a good cause.
It's called the Ride for Shelter, and participants will be riding their ATVs to various businesses in the Gwinn area and collecting envelopes of poker hands. The best hand wins a cash prize of $500, but there will also be 50-50 drawings, bucket drawings, and plenty of donated prizes that could be won. All of the proceeds raised from the event will go towards the Harbor House, which is a safe haven for domestic violence victims.
"Domestic violence nationwide has been up around 30 percent, and Marquette is no exception. Our shelter is at capacity almost all year-round, and so the need is just so great in this area," says Pak Ratz Manager Lindsay Gross.
Registration takes place Saturday at 10 a.m at Fat Boyz in Gwinn. There's a $20 entry fee to ride.
