MARQUETTE -- It's a showcase that grew out of local artists not being able to participate in other art shows.  And it's grown to be bigger and better than ever.

The 17th annual Outback Art Fair is taking place at Picnic Rocks in Marquette this weekend.

Despite the dreary weather Saturday morning, hundreds of people came out to purchase local artwork and crafts.  There's a wide variety of things to choose from--soaps, paintings, and rugs--just to name a few.

"It's a great fun time to come down here and meander through the park.  This park is really lovely with its, the way it's laid out on the bike path, so it's a lot of fun," says organizer Cindy Engle.

The first year there were just 24 artists participating, and this year there are 110.

There aren't many stipulations to who can be in the show.  Engle says it just depends on what artwork the artist does, the quality, and how it will fit with the rest of the art in the fair.

The Outback Art Fair also runs Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
