Effectively shuts down on August 7

MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Branch Prison Farm is going out of business.  That announcement was made Thursday.

The farm, which consists of a beef and dairy herd, effectively shuts down on August 7 after nearly 120 years in business.

Economics is the primary reason for closing the farm.

It costs too much to operate the farm, and the state of Michigan needs to cut back.
