Michigan bars and restaurants have been smoke-free for a little over two months now
MARQUETTE COUNTY -- Michigan bars and restaurants have been smoke-free for a little over two months now, and in Marquette County, so far, so good.
The Marquette County Health Department says that all the prep work they put in before the smoking ban made the transition as smooth as possible, and they're going to continue to educate the businesses on the smoking ban do's and don'ts.
Since the ban started on May 1, just six incidents have been reported in Marquette County.
"All of them have been relatively small," says M.C.H.D. Health Educator Sarah Derwin. "One instance was a place still had ashtrays on their outdoor patios, so it wasn't even a case of anyone smoking, but all it took was just a call to remind them, you need to remove the ashtrays and no problem done, and we call that a closed complaint."
Derwin says that people have told her they're smoking less thanks to the smoking ban.
