A water boil advisory has been issued for a portion of the city of Ishpeming
ISHPEMING -- A water boil advisory has been issued for the city of Ishpeming until 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
On Friday, the city experienced a large-diameter water main break in the vicinity of the Bluff Street "high rise" apartment building. This 12" diameter water main is a major distribution line for the south side of Ishpeming (south of Division Street) and is one of the supply lines to the Bluff Street booster station, which provides water service to the Cleveland location.
Due to the loss of pressure in the water system from this break, a water boil advisory has been issued for all City of Ishpeming water utility customers with service from South Pine Street, between Division Street and Middle Street (at Low Excelsior Street).
While low pressures may be experienced in the Cleveland location, this boil advisory does not apply since system pressures have remained over 20 psi (pounds per square inch).
Those affected by this advisory are advised to boil any water intended for human consumption for several minutes prior to consumption.
This advisory will remain in effect for at least 48 hours after restoration of water service, unless it is extended by a separate order.
The Department of Public Works will be closed for the remainder of the weekend, but will be responding to all water system related emergencies. Any emergencies may be directed to the call service at (877) 656-1406.
Discolored water may be experienced for a period of time once water has been restored. Water customers may need to flush their water systems for several minutes to purge the discolored water from their system.
Any issues regarding prolonged loss of water pressure should be directed to the Department of Public Works at 486-9371 or the after-hour call service indicated above.
