CRYSTAL FALLS (AP) -- Crystal Falls physician Dan Benishek has more cash on hand than state Sen. Jason Allen as the two head into the final weeks of the Republican primary for the 1st District congressional seat held by Democrat Bart Stupak.

Benishek had $280,659 on hand after lending his campaign over $130,000.  Allen, of Alanson, had $177,249.

No reports were on the Federal Election Commission Web site Friday morning for the other four Republicans in the race, but the contest was expected to be between Benishek and Allen.  Democratic state Rep. Gary McDowell reported $136,136 cash on hand.

Congressional candidates had to report Thursday how much they've raised, spent, and had on hand as of June 30.  Dozens of Michigan candidates filed reports by the deadline, but some remained unavailable on the FEC Web site.
