Asks Daniels to take "immediate and decisive action"

FORTH WAYNE, IND. (AP) -- Michigan U.S. Sen. Carl Levin has told Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels he's "deeply concerned" Indiana officials have downplayed the threat of Asian carp spreading from Indiana waters into the Great Lakes.

Levin's office says he wrote Daniels on Wednesday, saying the Indiana Department of Natural Resources has understated the danger of the invasive fish spreading from the Wabash River system into the lakes.

The Michigan Democrat says flooding near Fort Wayne could let the fish bridge the 20 miles between the river system and the Great Lakes.

Levin asks Daniels to take "immediate and decisive action."

Daniels spokeswoman Jane Jankowski said Thursday the Republican governor hadn't received the letter, and she declined comment.
