It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it
MARQUETTE -- It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it.
The 25th Annual International Food Festival wrapped up Sunday, but by Monday afternoon everything at Mattson Lower Harbor was back to normal. It's due to the help of volunteers from the Retired and Volunteer Senior Program or RSVP. They've been responsible for Food Fest cleanup for several years.
The Marquette County Exchange Club supports the cleanup with a donation to the group, and that money funds other volunteer programs though RSVP.
About 20 senior volunteers and family members came out to clean up Monday. They say the day after the fireworks is always the biggest cleanup.
"Each year, people seem to be a little bit better, maybe they're becoming more aware of their environment, but it is still a big job. You just suck it in and say 'I can pick up garbage,'" said RSVP Advisory Chair, Yvonne Clark.
RSVP says they find unusual items left behind at the Food Fest each year. Last year they found a prosthetic arm; this year they found men's underwear!
