MARQUETTE -- The City of Marquette recently received a bronze award from the League of American Bicyclists for being one of 16 bike friendly communities in the nation.

Mayor John Kivela accepted a plaque on behalf of the city last weekend at the Superior Bike Fest.

Marquette was named for its many trails in the community and its popular biking culture.  Many hope the award will only mean good things for the city.

"All that press is good; it's good for our businesses.  You know, it's a sense of pride for the residents, but it's also a source of income for our business owners.  There's hotels and motels and certainly other shops and restaurants that take advantage of that," said Kivela.

The mayor also says the city hopes to obtain the highest honor--the platinum award--in the future.
