SAWYER -- With Phase One of their renovations complete, officials at Sawyer International Airport can now focus on Phase Two.
The airport received federal stimulus funds under the American Recovery Act and used the money to make the airport more energy efficient.
Phase One focused on a new lighting generator vault, and Phase Two will expand on Phase One, making improvements to taxiway light fixtures. LED lighting will replace current taxiway lights.
"Operationally, we'll get lots more service life out of them and a lower operating cost to the county of Marquette, which we're always trying to get better, and improve on how we operate and maintain Sawyer," says airport manager Keith Kaspari. "So I think in-house we'll see noticable differences in the cost to operate the airfield lighting."
Phase Two will cost about $1.3 million and is expected to be completed by mid-August.
