Cowboys and cowgirls headed to the Marquette County Fairgrounds Saturday afternoon as the Great Lakes Rodeo continued with plenty of activities
MARQUETTE -- Cowboys and cowgirls headed to the Marquette County Fairgrounds Saturday afternoon as the Great Lakes Rodeo continued with plenty of activities.
A new event this year was team penning, which took place Saturday morning. The first rodeo performance would be held later Saturday evening.
But there is one thing that was going on all weekend and that was the competition for Rodeo Princess. Girls in the running were working hard, helping out at the rodeo, and they say it's a lot of fun.
"Being able to help out with the community and stuff," says Emilie Samppala. "Helping do all the fund-raisers for the Marquette Youth Development. It's a lot of fun and you get to meet a lot of new people."
"I think it's a lot of fun because you get to be in a rodeo, and it's exciting and you get to meet a lot of new people, and you also get to learn yourself with your horse, and I think that's fun," says Hannah Livingston.
The crowning of the princess will took place Sunday afternoon during the intermission of the second rodeo performance.
