MARQUETTE -- If you were hungry for barbecue Sunday afternoon, then the Lakeview Arena was the place to be.  The Kiwanis Club of Marquette held their 54th Annual Chicken Barbecue to raise funds for the community.

This is the major fund-raiser for the club, and all of the proceeds go towards 60 different area organizations such as Bay Cliff Health Camp, the YMCA of Marquette County, and the U.P. Children's Museum.

Organizers began preparing for the large crowds expected by getting up early Sunday to grill 3,000 chickens.

And there were also some changes at this year's event.

"We also started a drive-thru because on days like today when it's beautiful, sunny weather, people want to come and get it and then they can go and enjoy Marquette.  Go to lower harbor, go to Presque Isle, go home and sit on their back deck and enjoy the beautiful weather," said club president, James Goriesky.

The Kiwanis Club had hoped to raise $25,000 from the event.
