Police recover hundreds of rounds of ammo, handguns, and military rifle
HOUGHTON -- A tip from a concerned citizen led State Troopers from the Calumet Post and police from Calumet Village to arrest a convicted felon on weapons possession charges early Thursday morning.
The officers recovered hundreds of rounds of ammunition, handguns, and a military-style assault rifle from two residences and a storage shed belonging to 48-year-old Craig Robert Sorbo.
Sorbo was arraigned in Houghton County District Court Friday morning and faces up to five years in jail for violating both state and federal laws that prohibit felons from possessing weapons.
“The subject was very cooperative throughout the search and investigation, but they're certainly not the types of items we want out in the community,” said Trooper Steve Laux. “It was nice to get them off the street.”
Bond for Sorbo was set at 10 percent of $100,000. He'll be back in court for a preliminary exam on June 25.
