UPPER PENINSULA -- Two historic lighthouses in the Upper Peninsula will be receiving money through the Save Our Lights license plate fund.
The Michigan Lighthouse Assistance program is funded through the sale of the plates.
This year, more than $200,000 is being handed out through grants to eight lighthouses.
Included in this year's grant recipients are the Gull Rock light keepers--they will use the $20,000 grant to fix up the inside of the Gull Rock lighthouse. The Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society will be given $40,000; this is to work on the Whitefish Point lighthouse tower below the lantern room.
Anyone who would like to help preserve Michigan lighthouses can do so by purchasing a Save Our Lights license plate through the Secretary of State.
