The former Harris Township Treasurer will serve six months in jail

MENOMINEE COUNTY -- The former Harris Township Treasurer who pled no contest to embezzling money from the township over the past few years will spend the next six months behind bars.

Margaret Jorasz, 51, was sentenced to six months in jail and 18 months probation.

Last month, she plead no contest to public official, embezzlement over $50.  However, the township supervisor says restitution has been paid in full which was over $308,000.

The township supervisor believes the crime began in 2004.

Jorasz resigned as treasurer last August and was charged in February.  Work release was granted during her sentence.
