BARAGA COUNTY -- Sentencing has been handed down against a L'Anse man found guilty of sexual abuse.

In a statement released by the U.S. Department of Justice, 22-year-old Eugene Walter George Rantanen will be in federal prison for 57 months.  He will also have 10 years supervised release and must register as a sex offender.

In December, a jury found Rantanen, who was 18 at the time the incident happened, guilty of engaging in a sexual act with a 14 year old.

The crime happened within the boundaries of the KBIC, making the matter a federal offense.

Rantanen was acquitted of the other charges brought against him.
