This weekend, the Hiawathaland Council of the U.P. held their own centennial celebration
MARQUETTE -- Throughout this year, the Boy Scouts of America will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of their founding. And this weekend, the Hiawathaland Council of the U.P. held their own centennial celebration.
Hundreds of U.P. Boy Scouts spent the day doing different activities around Marquette in honor of the 100th anniversary.
Cub Scouts had a full day of activities at Mattson Lower Harbor, like games and safety demonstrations from agencies like the DNRE, the Coast Guard, and the Chocolay Township Fire Department.
Boy Scouts camped overnight at Tourist Park, then participated in different career topics at NMU.
"It's pretty significant for any organization to reach a 100-year milestone, but it's important to us because not only do we have a great heritage, but we feel we have a great future, and we're doing a good job today, so it's helping to reinvigorate scouting and draw somemore people in to being volunteers which we're always looking for," says Dewey Jones of the Hiawathaland Council.
The main event of the centennial celebration was to be a show in Lakeview Arena earlier this evening.
