NEGAUNEE -- For 40 years, people all across the globe have celebrated Earth Day.

The day was created as a way to inspire awareness and appreciation for the environment.  Activities across the country have involved planting trees, recycling, and going green.

Negaunee Middle School students spent their science period picking up trash.  Their teacher has noticed a change in the students' attitudes over the years.

"I see that there's more of a worldwide concern.  Students are very much concerned with predictions about the world ending and things like that, and they see that they might have something to do with it," states Negaunee Middle School Science teacher, Chuck Delpier.

Delpier also notes that there has been an increase in the amount of trash his students pick up.
