The corrections officers were seriously injured
MUNISING -- Inmates attacked four corrections officers at the Alger Correctional Facility Sunday afternoon. The corrections officers were seriously hurt, suffering face and head injuries.
According to a member of the Michigan Corrections Organization Union, the incident happened in a common area at the Munising Township facility.
Five inmates allegedly went after the COs. Another four inmates did not leave the area of the attack which is a violation of policy.
Cordell says there were no weapons involved in the attack, and the prison was back to normal on Tuesday.
Three of the inmates involved in the attack have been transferred to the Baraga Max Prison.
Cordell says the Alger Prison currenly houses 869 inmates, which is 23 beds below capacity.
