CHATHAM -- Students at Superior Central Schools raised funds to help the people of Haiti recover from the earthquake.  Kindergarten through sixth grades held three events over the past two weeks to collect change, including a penny war.

Mrs. Hallstrom's first grade class won.

Their reward?  Wednesday morning, her class delivered all of the change they collected to the cashier's desk at the People's State Bank in Chatham.  The class was accompanied by older students who supervised for social studies community service projects.

"I really appreciate helping them," said Brigitta Perron, third grader.  "Want them to have food, water, I really want them to have a great life...to be able to have schools, homes, food, parents.  It makes me feel really sad that they don't have all those things."

They raised $1,253.88 total.
