MARQUETTE COUNTY -- Kennecott Minerals announced Tuesday that it has all the state permits it needs to reopen the Humboldt Mill near Champion.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment issued four permits covering air emissions, water discharge, and other operations associated with the mill.

Kennecott plans to reopen the mill and use it to treat ore from its nearby Eagle Project Mine.

The Humboldt Mill has been closed since 1972.

Kennecott will begin cleanup of the mill property, both inside and outside, later this year.
