MUNISING -- A Munising man is okay after breaking through the ice outside of Munising Bay.
The 51-year-old man was out ice fishing on the west side of Grand Island when he broke through the ice Saturday morning. He spent about 45 minutes in the water before rescuers from the Alger County Sheriff's Department were able to get to him.
Paramedics treated the man, then transported him to Munising Memorial Hospital where he was treated and later released.
The Alger County Sheriff's Department is warning all recreational enthusiasts to use extreme caution when going out onto the ice, as the ice is newly formed flow ice and cannot be trusted.
