MUNISING -- Some recent changes in emerald ash borer quarantines effect those of you looking to obtain firewood permits on Hiawatha National Forest lands.
Quarantined areas now include those in the national forest, which include Alger, Chippewa, Delta, Mackinac and Schoolcraft counties.
With the changes, all hardwood species of firewood cut on national forest land within quarantine areas cannot be transported outside or between those areas.
"They need to make sure they have a map showing them whether their cutting areas are within what level of quarantine because they can't be moving them between levels," said Janel Crooks, Public Affairs Officer.
Officials say penalties include fines and jail time.
