DELTA COUNTY -- An elderly Escanaba woman was taken to the hospital following a traffic crash Saturday morning.

According to the Michigan State Police at the Gladstone Post, the 77-year-old woman was heading north on US-2/41 when she lost control trying to turn right onto 18.3 Road. The vehicle hit the guard rail and was launched into the air. The snow against the guard rail acted as a ramp.  The vehicle broke through several small trees and careened down the embankment until it was wedged in a concrete culvert at the bottom.

The driver was taken to O.S.F. St. Francis Hospital with minor back injuries.  The driver was wearing her seat belt which prevented further severe injuries.

Speed and icy road conditions at the intersection were factors in the crash.  The driver was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions.
