LANSING (AP) -- A Democratic state lawmaker says House Speaker Andy Dillon should give up his leadership position if he ends up running for governor.
Dillon took a key step toward joining the governor's race Thursday when he announced he'd formed a committee to explore a run.
Rep. Fred Miller of Mount Clemens says he's concerned that Dillon wouldn't be able to handle his House responsibilities if he's campaigning.
Dillon said in a statement he respects Miller's comments and will take them under advisement as he explores a run.
Miller says the House needs the Democratic leader to focus on state budget issues. He adds that Dillon's ambitions might hurt the House Democratic caucus politically and from a policy standpoint.
