Ishpeming recreation area open for season

ISHPEMING -- While many people decide to hit the mall the day after Christmas, others chose to take advantage of the fresh snow and hit the hills.

The Al Quaal Recreation Area opened Saturday for tubing and sled riding.  For just $7, residents can enjoy a day of snow tubing.

Despite the rainy conditions Friday, it seemed like everyone was having a good time and eager for the rest of winter.

"It's cold, it's wet, it's nice and soft for crash courses, so it's pretty ideal," said Kendra Kline of Negaunee.

"It feels really nice.  I go to college downstate and there was no snow down there when I came up for break, so it's nice to be able to come out and sled again," added James Parkkonen of Negaunee.

The tube slide will be open everyday until December 30.

After that, it will be open only on the weekends.
