Some areas have picked up nearly a foot of snow in the past 24 hours.
NEGAUNEE -- It may have taken its time to get here, but the snow has finally made an appearance in the U.P. And it has come with quite a powerful punch, which has led to some residents being unhappy when they woke up Wednesday morning.
"Well, it came too quick...sudden. If it would have came a little bit at a time, we would have gotten used to it, but it came with a vengeance," described Joan Nelson of Negaunee.
With blizzard warnings in effect for many counties in the U.P. and heavy snow falling, activities have come to a standstill. Many schools were closed Wednesday and those brave enough to venture onto the roads, they encountered difficult driving conditions.
"Conditions are horrible right now. If you don't have to be out, please don't be out. We're working on them; 41 and the highways are snow covered and slippery. Side roads, we're opening them now and hopefully through the night we'll have at least one pass on each road which means you should be able to get in and out if you have to," said Michael Harrington of the Marquette County Road Commission.
Despite the poor road conditions, others are happy to see the snow, even if it means a day of hard work.
"Well you get out of school, but you've got to shovel all day. So it's a yes and no," explained Tyler Schroderus of Negaunee.
Some schools have already called us about Thursday. Check the school closings page for the latest.
