The downturn in the economy is proving tough for non-profit agencies to overcome as they raise needed funding.
MARQUETTE COUNTY -- The unstable economy has affected jobs and businesses, and it's also affecting non-profits.
A lot of those agencies are working through some tough times.
The United Way is a non-profit agency working to provide for all of the other non-profits in the area. The United Way of Marquette County hopes to raise $500,000. The agency benefits 30 groups in Marquette County. One of those is the YMCA in Marquette. They say large gifts are less common these days, but the smaller donations are still coming in.
The campaign began three months ago, and the United Way is at 28 percent of their goal. They need the money, because people need the help.
Those with the United Way of Marquette County say they get a lot of calls from people just looking for help. They say the need is there and it just breaks their hearts and it makes them all that much more committed to go out there and shake the bushes and round up all the dollars they can.
Donations for this year will be received until June.
