Students turn class garden into spaghetti lunch.

HOUGHTON -- Some third and fourth graders at Houghton Elementary School got to enjoy the fruits-and vegetables-of their labor Friday afternoon.

Students from Laura Sayen's current and previous third grade classes were treated to a special spaghetti and veggie lunch.

The sauce and the sides all came from plants that the students grew and harvested in a class garden.

Sayen says this is the first year she's done the project, which was a lot of fun for the kids and, of course, educational.

"I had an opportunity to take over a garden at the Marsin Center and I applied through the Keweenaw Land Trust and they willingly gave it to us," said Sayen.

Sayen plans to continue the project next spring when her current class replants the garden.
