The Alger County Road Commission says the new, paved road will save the county money.
"It'll improve our ability to concentrate maintenance efforts elsewhere; we spend so many hours grading and adding gravel to this sandy roadway," said Road Commission Manager Bob Lindbeck.

Well, I just spent the last three hours on H-58 looking at the construction that’s going on.
Crews will start laying over ten miles of asphalt starting next week. I've been told it should take four weeks to complete the process.
The construction has also closed down two campgrounds on the road, Kingston Lake and Twelve Mile Beach.
I’ll have an update later. Check back for more.

Traveling the U.P. everyday, I'm use to seeing orange barrels and construction signs. But one construction zone I haven't gone through is H-58 in Alger County. That's where I'm going today, where crews are paving the way to Grand Marais. I'll have more details on the construction and some campground closures coming up later.
