Patrols nab drunk driving, seat belt offenders
MICHIGAN -- The results are in from the annual law enforcement effort known as Click It or Ticket.
Officers statewide wrote 11,727 seat belt citations, an increase of more than 3,000 compared to last year; and a total 164 drunk drivers were arrested, that's 51 more than last year.
In the Upper Peninsula, 170 tickets were issued to seat belt violators and one drunk driver was arrested.
Michigan led the nation in seat belt use in 2008 with 97.2 percent of motorists buckling up. The 2009 results will be released next month.
